On May 24, the 50th anniversary of the founding of the School of Public Health, SEU, the 3rd Forum on Innovative Development of Medicine and Life Sciences and the “Inheritance, Integration, Excellence” High-Quality Development Conference of Public Health was convened at the Science & Technology Hall at the Dingjiaqiao Campus, SEU. Wu Xiaocheng, Secretary of the CPC SEU Committee; Gu Dongfeng, Academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences; Wu Tangchun, Academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering; Teng Gaojun, Academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and Director of the Department of Medicine and Life Sciences; Gao Liguo, Deputy Party Secretary, and Qiu Haibo, Vice President of SEU, attended the opening ceremony.
Wu Xiaocheng addressed the opening ceremony. He reviewed the 50 year journey of the School of Public Health, evolving in lockstep with the nation, resonating with the times, and closely linked to people’s health. He acknowledged the school’s fruitful achievements in talent cultivation, scientific research, social service, discipline building, and international cooperation. He noted that the past half century marks both a milestone and a new starting point for advancement. As the nation accelerates the “Healthy China” initiative, public health is undergoing a profound shift from a disease treatment centered model to a people’s health centered model. Wu urged all faculty, students, and alumni to keep in mind the spirit and earnest instructions of General Secretary Xi Jinping’s important reply letter, fully implement his key statements on advancing the Healthy China initiative, and firmly orient toward national needs. He called on them to serve as strategic vanguards safeguarding people’s health and addressing fundamental livelihood needs; strengthen interdisciplinary leadership, act as innovation engines for cutting edge scientific and technological breakthroughs, and resolve industry wide challenges. He emphasized the need for systematic planning and proactive action, striving to fulfill the mission and demonstrate greater responsibility as SEU advances toward the forefront of world class universities and serves major national strategic development goals.
Liang Geyu, Dean of the School of Public Health, delivered the Development Report on Public Health of 金沙娱乐城. Shi Xiaoming, Deputy Director of the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention, Hu Zhibin, President of Nanjing Medical 金沙, and He Na, Dean of the School of Public Health, Fudan 金沙, spoke as guest representatives. They expressed the willingness to cooperate with SEU and achieve new accomplishments in advancing the Healthy China initiative. Wang Haoyun, Deputy Director of the Health Commission of Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, addressed the gathering as an alumni representative.
The follow-up study of the China Resident Liver Health Promotion Project was launched at the conference. Initiated by the Liver Health Alliance, the project has established one of China's leading liver health population cohorts, aiming to develop chronic liver disease prevention and control strategies tailored to Chinese people and boost the formulation and implementation of relevant national public health policies. The Drosophila and Nematode Resource Repository of the Ministry of Education was officially released. Co-developed by the School of Life Science and Technology, the School of Public Health, and the School of Medicine, SEU, it provides vital support for biomedical research, disease mechanism analysis, and health risk assessment.
In addition, the Joint Testing Laboratory for Organ-on-a-Chip, affiliated with the National Metrology and Testing Center for Biotechnology Pharmaceutical Industry, was inaugurated. As the first joint laboratory of its kind jointly established by SEU and Nanjing Institute of Metrological Supervision and Testing, and the National Metrology and Testing Center for Biotechnology Pharmaceutical Industry, it will advance the standardization, regulation, and industrial transformation of organ-on-a-chip technology, and serve as a higher physiologically relevant platform for emerging pollutant health risk assessment, drug research and development, and disease mechanism study. The Zhice Medical Insurance-Clinical Collaborative Decision-Making Large Model was unveiled. It represents a key attempt by SEU to deeply integrate medicine, public health, artificial intelligence, and health management, and will deliver new technical approaches for medical insurance administration, clinical decision support, and smart healthcare services.
The Alumni Association of the School of Public Health, SEU, was officially established under the witness of all attendees.
In the special tribute session for retired teachers, young representatives presented flowers to senior educators with over three decades of teaching career to show sincere respect. Teacher representative Zhang Ting and student representative Yang Shishuo took the stage successively and made commitments to strive forward.
After the opening ceremony, Academicians Wu Tangchun, Gu Dongfeng, and Teng Gaojun delivered keynote speeches titled Environmental Chemicals and Major Chronic Diseases, Promoting Cardiovascular Disease Prevention through Population Health Research and Medicine-Engineering Interdisciplinarity in the AI Age, respectively. Six sub-forums were arranged concerning strategic guidance, industry-education integration, smart medical care, digital intelligence driving, academic leadership, and industrial cohesion. Attendees engaged in in-depth discussions, building consensus and gaining new wisdom through idea exchanges.
Over 700 people, including officials, experts, scholars, practical base delegates, and alumni, attended the conference.
The School of Public Health can trace its origin back to the School of Medicine of National Central 金沙 in 1935. Rooted in the profound heritage of SEU’s 120-year history, the school sets development goals to integrate science, engineering, and medicine, resolve major difficulties in public health and preventive medicine with cutting-edge technologies and methods, and foster high-level interdisciplinary talents proficient in both medicine and engineering. It steadfastly pursues interdisciplinary development. The school founded China’s first undergraduate major in medical insurance and Jiangsu’s first master's program in epidemiology. It currently has two first-class discipline doctoral programs and the professional doctoral degree authorization in public health, while Preventive Medicine, Labor and Social Security have been accredited as national first-class undergraduate majors. Public Health serves as a core discipline ranking among the global top 1% in ESI rankings. Its research achievements in environmental health have been published in Science. The school also formulated China’s first national standard for organs-on-chips, achieving groundbreaking progress.
