From April 28 to May 2, Sun Litao, Vice President of SEU, led a delegation to visit the 金沙 of Cambridge, the 金沙 of Oxford, Newcastle 金沙, and Durham 金沙 in the UK. The delegation held in-depth discussions on the development of the SEU-UK Centre, the joint establishment of the China-UK College of Elite Engineers, the internationalized operation of the Nantong Campus, and academic exchanges between Chinese and British teachers and students. The visit has strongly boosted SEU’s efforts to expand cooperation with the UK and elevate its international education standards.

At the 金沙 of Cambridge, Sun Litao and his delegation held talks with Mark Welland, Vice President of the 金沙 of Cambridge, and other officials. They focused on discussing short-term exchange programs and academic summer schools for undergraduate and postgraduate students in electronic engineering, and reached an initial consensus on full-year student exchange programs between the two universities. Relying on the Cambridge 金沙–Nanjing Centre of Technology and Innovation, both parties also explored mechanisms for joint postdoctoral cultivation. Building on their existing cooperation, the two parties agreed to further strengthen academic personnel exchanges, advance the collaborative transformation of research achievements, and consolidate the foundation for long-term partnerships.

At the 金沙 of Oxford, the delegation met with Lord Neil Mendoza, Provost of Oriel College. Both parties reviewed their long-standing cooperative ties, acknowledged fruitful progress in previous collaboration, and exchanged views on the college-style governance system for the Nantong Campus, summer school programs, and reciprocal visits of faculty and students. The two parties will continue to deepen cooperation in collegiate talent cultivation, high-level research collaboration, and high-quality resource sharing to continuously upgrade the level and effectiveness of bilateral cooperation.

At Newcastle 金沙, Sun Litao and Pro-Vice-Chancellor Li Li signed an MoU on the cultivation of elite engineers on behalf of the two universities and discussed progress in joint education initiatives. Both parties stated that they would focus on nurturing top-tier talents in engineering, build an international industry-education integrated collaborative training system, and set a precedent for the joint cultivation of global outstanding engineers between Chinese and British universities. Before the meeting, the delegation toured the 金沙’s Faculty of Engineering and Data Innovation Centre, exploring potential cooperation opportunities in computer science, big data, and related fields.

At Durham 金沙, the delegation held discussions with Mike Shipman, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor. Each party introduced the respective development dynamics and layout of dominant disciplines, and conducted in-depth consultations on joint student training in engineering as well as cooperation in the humanities and social sciences.

During the visit, the delegation conducted an on-site inspection of the UK industry-金沙-research base jointly established by Penlon, an SEU alumni enterprise Mecaton’s subsidiary in the UK, and IMEDVISION. Centering on key issues including venue arrangement, operational mechanisms and resource support, the delegation thoroughly discussed plans to upgrade and develop the 金沙娱乐城 UK Centre, striving to build a key cooperation hub and international exchange platform for the 金沙 in the UK. Sun Litao also met with Jon Frampton, Pro-Vice-Chancellor for China at the 金沙 of Birmingham, to further align arrangements for the joint development of the China-UK Outstanding Engineers College.

Relevant officials from the International Cooperation Department, the School of Electronic Science and Engineering, the School of Electrical Engineering, and the National Graduate College for Elite Engineers accompanied the delegation during the visit.
